KYARI HOSTS INDIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER TO DEEPEN NIGERIA AND INDIA AGRICULTURAL CO-OPERATION.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, on Thursday, June 4, 2026, received the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Abhishek Singh, in Abuja, as both countries explored opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture and food security.

The meeting focused on expanding collaboration in key areas of agricultural development, including mechanization, irrigation, technology transfer, research, capacity building, agro-processing and agribusiness investment.

Speaking during the engagement, Kyari underscored the importance of international partnerships in transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector and achieving sustainable food security. He noted that India’s remarkable achievements in agricultural innovation and productivity offer valuable lessons for Nigeria’s ongoing agricultural transformation agenda.

The Minister reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to modernizing agriculture through strategic partnerships that promote access to improved technologies, quality inputs, mechanization services and market opportunities for farmers. He also emphasized the need for increased investment across agricultural value chains to boost production, create jobs and improve rural livelihoods.

In his remarks, Ambassador Singh reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding relationship with Nigeria and expressed readiness to support collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, food security and economic growth. He highlighted the growing cooperation between both countries and the significant role of Indian expertise and investment in supporting Nigeria’s development priorities.

Discussions also explored opportunities for knowledge exchange, agricultural research partnerships, training programmes, and greater participation of Indian agribusiness firms in Nigeria’s agricultural value chains both sides agreed on the importance of leveraging agriculture as a catalyst for economic diversification, job creation and sustainable development.

The meeting further reaffirmed the strong diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and India with both countries expressing optimism that enhanced cooperation in agriculture would contribute significantly to food security, trade expansion and shared prosperity. Recent engagements between Nigerian and Indian officials have continued to demonstrate the commitment of both nations to deepening bilateral relations across multiple sectors.
