The Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI) on April 21, 2026, donated a solar dryer and 10-tonne capacity inert silos to Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches Limited in Abuja, in a move aimed at strengthening food preservation and agricultural productivity.
The donation was presented on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen W. Shaibu by Maj. Gen. S. Nicodemus during a ceremony held at the premises of Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches Limited.
Speaking at the event, Maj. Gen. Nicodemus commended NSPRI for the intervention, describing the donation as a strategic contribution toward enhancing food security and modern agricultural practices within the Nigerian Army’s farming operations.
He noted that the solar dryer would improve hygienic drying of agricultural produce through renewable energy, while the 10-tonne inert silos would provide efficient storage facilities to reduce post-harvest losses and preserve grain quality.
The Executive Director of NSPRI Prof Lateef Sanni said the institute remains committed to promoting modern storage technologies, value addition and sustainable solutions that support national agricultural development.
He added that collaboration with institutions such as Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches Limited would further expand access to innovative post-harvest technologies across the country.
Officials of Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches Limited expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the equipment would improve processing capacity, storage efficiency and overall productivity.
The organisation reaffirmed its dedication to contributing to national food production, employment generation and agricultural sustainability through strategic partnerships.
