The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Nigeria’s livestock industry into a globally competitive sector. Speaking on the renewed agenda for livestock development, the Minister emphasized strategic reforms, investment drive, value chain expansion and productivity enhancement aimed at positioning the sector for international competition. The initiative is expected to boost employment opportunities, attract private sector participation and improve the nation’s contribution to global livestock trade.
In the maritime sector, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, , reiterated Nigeria’s support for a fair and inclusive net-zero shipping transition during deliberations at the . He stressed the importance of balancing environmental sustainability with economic realities, particularly for developing nations, while advocating policies that will ensure equitable participation in global shipping decarbonization efforts.
Meanwhile, the has empowered 50 youths and women with modern beekeeping skills under the Kwara Livestock Entrepreneurship Scheme (KWALES). The training programme focused on honey production, hive management, bee colony maintenance and agribusiness opportunities in apiculture. The initiative is part of the state government’s broader strategy to promote entrepreneurship, job creation and sustainable livestock value chain development.
Also this week, the trained stakeholders on post-harvest management and unveiled innovative technologies aimed at reducing food losses across agricultural value chains. The programme educated farmers, processors and agribusiness operators on improved storage systems, preservation methods and handling techniques capable of minimizing wastage and enhancing food availability in the country.
