YOBE BOOSTS SECURITY AMID REPORTS OF INSURGENTS TAXING FARMERS.

The Yobe State Government has intensified security measures across farming communities following reports that insurgent groups have been imposing illegal taxes on farmers operating in parts of the state.

Authorities described the development as a serious threat to agricultural productivity, rural livelihoods and food security noting that such activities could discourage farming activities and worsen economic hardship among affected communities.

Government officials stated that additional security deployments and surveillance operations have been introduced to strengthen the protection of farmers farmlands and agricultural activities during the ongoing farming season.

The state further reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with security agencies, community leaders and local stakeholders to curb criminal activities capable of disrupting farming operations and threatening public safety.

Stakeholders within the agricultural sector expressed concern that extortion and insecurity in rural areas continue to undermine food production efforts, force displacement of farming populations and increase production costs for farmers.

Experts also warned that persistent insecurity could negatively affect crop cultivation, reduce harvest volumes and contribute to rising food prices if urgent interventions are not sustained.

The government encouraged residents to support security agencies with timely information that could aid ongoing efforts to identify and apprehend those involved in illegal activities targeting farming communities.

Authorities maintained that ensuring adequate security within rural and agricultural areas remains essential to safeguarding food production, protecting livelihoods and supporting economic stability across Yobe State.
