NIGERIA BOOSTS PRESENCE IN GLOBAL SHEA ALLIANCE WITH FOUR EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENTS.

Nigeria has strengthened its representation within the Global Shea Alliance (GSA) following the appointment of four Nigerians into key executive positions within the international organisation dedicated to promoting the growth and sustainability of the shea industry.

The appointments have been described as a significant development for Nigeria’s agricultural and export sectors, particularly within the shea value chain which plays an important role in rural livelihoods, women empowerment and non-oil export development.

Stakeholders noted that the increased Nigerian presence within the leadership structure of the Global Shea Alliance is expected to create greater opportunities for policy influence, international collaboration, market expansion and investment promotion within the shea industry.

The shea sector remains a major source of income for thousands of rural women and small-scale processors involved in the collection, processing and marketing of shea products across several northern states in Nigeria.

Industry experts explained that stronger participation in global shea governance could help improve access to international markets, encourage sustainable production practices and attract technical and financial support for local producers and processors.

The appointments are also expected to strengthen Nigeria’s role in advancing discussions around quality standards, value addition, environmental sustainability and inclusive growth within the global shea ecosystem.

Stakeholders further highlighted the importance of continued investment in processing infrastructure capacity building and export promotion to enhance the competitiveness of Nigerian shea products in the international market.

The development reflects growing recognition of Nigeria’s contribution to the global shea industry and its potential to drive rural economic development, women inclusion and agricultural export diversification.
