AKPABIO ADVOCATES DEEPER COLLABORATION TO DRIVE SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL GROWTH.

President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio has called for stronger collaboration among government institutions, private sector stakeholders, development partners and farming communities to accelerate sustainable agricultural growth and strengthen food security in Nigeria.

Akpabio emphasised that effective partnerships remain essential to addressing key challenges confronting the agricultural sector, including inadequate infrastructure, limited access to financing, climate-related risks, insecurity and low productivity.

According to him, deeper collaboration across the agricultural value chain would help promote innovation, improve mechanisation, expand investment opportunities and enhance the overall competitiveness of Nigeria’s agricultural economy.

The Senate President further stressed the importance of policies and programmes capable of supporting farmers, agribusiness operators, researchers and agricultural institutions in achieving long-term sectoral transformation.

Stakeholders within the sector noted that sustainable agricultural growth requires coordinated efforts aimed at improving rural infrastructure, strengthening market access, encouraging value addition and promoting climate-smart farming practices.

Experts also highlighted the need for increased investments in agricultural research, extension services, storage facilities and agro-processing industries to enhance food production and reduce post-harvest losses.

Akpabio reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to supporting legislative measures and strategic initiatives that will encourage agricultural development, economic diversification and job creation across the country.

He maintained that strengthening collaboration among all stakeholders would play a vital role in achieving a resilient, productive, and sustainable agricultural sector capable of supporting national economic growth and food sufficiency.
