NIGERIA AND DENMARK STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIP ON LIVESTOCK DEVELOPMENT.

The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Kingdom of Denmark have deepened their collaboration in livestock development with the signing of a new cooperation agreement aimed at improving animal health, food safety, disease control and agricultural innovation across Nigeria’s livestock sector.

The agreement signed in Abuja on Sunday, marks the commencement of Phase II of the Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) Programme in Livestock Production between the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and the Danish Ministry of Food Agriculture and Fisheries.

The renewed partnership is expected to enhance technical cooperation, strengthen veterinary services and promote the adoption of global best practices in livestock production and management.

Under the agreement, both countries will collaborate in areas such as animal disease surveillance and control, food safety standards, capacity building, sustainable livestock production and the introduction of innovative technologies to improve productivity across the sector.

The initiative is also aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s livestock value chain, increasing farmers’ incomes and supporting the country’s broader agenda of achieving food and nutrition security.

Officials noted that the partnership reflects the commitment of both governments to fostering sustainable agricultural development and building a resilient livestock sector capable of meeting the growing demand for animal protein.

The commencement of Phase II of the Strategic Sector Cooperation Programme is expected to consolidate achievements recorded under the first phase while opening new opportunities for knowledge exchange, institutional strengthening and private sector participation.

Stakeholders have expressed optimism that the collaboration will contribute significantly to improving the quality and safety of livestock products, reducing the burden of animal diseases and enhancing the competitiveness of Nigeria’s livestock industry both locally and internationally.
