
The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained investment in tree planting and environmental protection programmes aimed at promoting ecological sustainability across the state.
The governor made the pledge during a tree-planting exercise and other activities organised to commemorate the 2026 World Environment Day in Benin City.
The event brought together government officials, environmental stakeholders and members of the judiciary who participated in a symbolic tree-planting exercise designed to encourage environmental conservation and foster a greener and healthier ecosystem.
Governor Okpebholo stated that tree planting remains a vital strategy for combating climate change, reducing environmental degradation and preserving biodiversity for future generations.
He stressed the need for collective action in protecting the environment, urging residents and stakeholders to support initiatives that promote sustainable land use and ecological balance.
According to the governor, his administration will continue to implement policies and programmes that encourage afforestation environmental awareness and responsible management of natural resources.
He noted that investing in environmental protection is essential for safeguarding livelihoods, improving public health and ensuring sustainable development in the state.
The commemoration of World Environment Day also served as an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship and the role individuals and institutions can play in addressing climate-related challenges.
Stakeholders at the event commended the state government’s efforts and called for increased collaboration in promoting environmental sustainability and building resilience against the effects of climate change.
