The Enterprise Grooming Institute (EGI) has called for greater youth involvement in skill acquisition training on agribusiness as a strategy to tackle unemployment, boost food production and drive economic growth.
The call was made during the weekly agricultural discussion programme on friday 24th April 2026 on Agrigens Media, tagged AGRIC DISCUSSION, where the Chief Executive Officer of EGI, Dr AYODEJI AJIFEFINI, emphasised the need to engage more young people in modern agriculture and agribusiness opportunities.
Speaking during the programme, Dr. Ajifefini said agribusiness remains one of the most viable sectors for wealth creation, job opportunities, and sustainable national development. He noted that with proper training and mentorship youths can build successful businesses in crop production, livestock farming, food processing and agricultural value chains.
According to him, skill acquisition programmes are essential in equipping young people with practical knowledge, entrepreneurial mindset, and technical expertise needed to thrive in today’s agricultural sector.
He further urged government agencies, private organisations and development partners to invest more in youth-focused agricultural training initiatives that would make farming attractive and profitable.
Dr. Ajifefini also stressed the importance of innovation, mechanisation and digital tools in transforming agriculture and encouraging the younger generation to see agribusiness as a modern career path.
He advise youth to look towards self discovery and always sought for knowledge above financial gains, parent should’nt force their children out of jealous he emphaises school won’t determine the skill in your child.
The anchors during the discussion commended EGI for championing youth empowerment through agriculture and described the programme as timely and impactful.
The weekly Agric Discussion programme on Agrigens Media continues to provide a platform for experts and stakeholders to share ideas on advancing agriculture and food security in Nigeria.
