
The Kwara State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen climate adaptation initiatives and promote greater participation of women in agriculture as part of strategies aimed at improving food security, sustainable farming and rural economic development.
Government officials stated that the initiative is focused on supporting climate-resilient agricultural practices capable of helping farmers adapt to changing weather conditions, environmental challenges and the growing impact of climate change on food production.
The state further emphasised the critical role women play within the agricultural value chain noting that increased inclusion and empowerment of female farmers and agripreneurs remain essential to achieving sustainable agricultural growth and improving household livelihoods.
According to stakeholders the programme is expected to provide support through training, capacity building, access to improved agricultural inputs, climate-smart farming techniques and opportunities for agribusiness development.
The government also highlighted the importance of strengthening access to financing, extension services and market opportunities for women engaged in farming and agricultural enterprises across the state.
Experts within the sector noted that climate adaptation measures such as irrigation development, sustainable land management, improved seed varieties and environmental conservation are increasingly necessary to safeguard agricultural productivity against climate-related risks.
Stakeholders further stressed that empowering women in agriculture could significantly boost food production, improve rural incomes, and strengthen community resilience within the agricultural sector.
