Innovators, researchers, policymakers and technology enthusiasts have called on African youths to harness artificial intelligence and other digital technologies to drive agricultural transformation and strengthen food security across the continent.
The call was made during the maiden edition of the G-SPARK Summit, organised by the Google Developer Group (GDG) On Campus, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) chapter, at the university’s Ceremonial Building.
Held under the theme “Showcasing Talents, Scaling Impact,” the summit highlighted the role of youth-led innovation in addressing Nigeria’s growing agricultural and food security challenges.
Participants emphasized that emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analytics and digital platforms have the potential to revolutionise agricultural production, improve efficiency and enhance decision-making across the value chain.
Speakers at the event encouraged young Africans to develop innovative solutions capable of tackling issues such as climate change, low productivity, post-harvest losses and limited access to agricultural information.
They noted that empowering young people with digital skills and technological tools is essential to building resilient food systems and ensuring sustainable agricultural development.
The summit also provided a platform for showcasing talents, promoting collaboration and inspiring students and young innovators to create impactful solutions that can contribute to national and continental development.
Stakeholders stressed that the future of agriculture lies in the integration of technology and innovation, adding that youth participation remains critical to achieving food security and economic growth in Africa.
The organisers expressed optimism that the initiative would foster creativity, strengthen partnerships and encourage more young people to explore technology-driven solutions for agriculture and other sectors.
