Leading the edition is the recognition of Niger State rice processors who earned the prestigious Africa-wide African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) Quality Mark Award. The achievement underscores the growing competitiveness and quality standards of Nigerian rice products within the African market and is expected to boost consumer confidence and export opportunities for local processors.
Also featured is the approval by the Niger State House of Assembly of a ₦20.4 billion facility to support large-scale irrigation projects across the state. The initiative is aimed at enhancing all year-round agricultural production, increasing food security and strengthening the state’s position as a major agricultural hub in Nigeria.
The newsletter further reports the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Programme. The government reaffirmed its determination to accelerate the implementation of the programme, which is designed to attract private sector investment, improve agricultural value chains, create jobs and stimulate rural economic growth.
On the international scene, the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) ushered in a new era of leadership as Dr. Foluke Areola emerged as the new President of the society. The occasion also celebrated the remarkable contributions of outgoing President Wendy Sealey whose tenure was marked by efforts to advance sustainable aquaculture and strengthen global collaboration within the sector.
Another major highlight is the briefing of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari by the World Bank AGROW Team on progress toward the implementation of the AGROW Project. The project is expected to support agricultural productivity, improve access to markets and enhance the livelihoods of farmers across participating states.
Volume 15 edition also covers developments within farmers’ associations, including the election of Mr. Okon Eteobong Amah as the Publicity Secretary of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter. His emergence is expected to strengthen communication, advocacy and stakeholder engagement efforts within the association.
