IAR&T OPENS NEW RESEARCH STATION IN OSUN TO BOOST AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY.

A new research station of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Ibadan, has been officially inaugurated in Imesi-Ile, Osun State, in a move aimed at strengthening agricultural productivity and tackling food insecurity in the region.

Established through collaboration between the institute and community stakeholders, the facility is expected to enhance agricultural research facilitate technology transfer and promote the adoption of improved farming practices among farmers.

The new station is also expected to serve as a hub for developing and disseminating innovative agricultural solutions that will help increase crop yields improve livelihoods and support sustainable food production.

The inauguration ceremony attracted academics, traditional rulers, farmers and other stakeholders in the food security sector who stressed the importance of research-driven interventions in addressing Nigeria’s agricultural challenges.

Participants noted that strengthening agricultural research institutions remains critical to achieving national food security, increasing farmers productivity and promoting economic development.

They also highlighted the need for stronger collaboration among research institutes farming communities and development partners to ensure that scientific innovations are effectively translated into practical solutions for farmers.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that the establishment of the research station would create opportunities for training, capacity building and the introduction of climate-smart agricultural technologies capable of improving productivity and resilience within the sector.

The Institute of Agricultural Research and Training Ibadan, is one of Nigeria’s foremost agricultural research institutions and has continued to play a significant role in advancing agricultural development through research, extension services and human capacity development.
