The Plateau State Government has procured 500 truckloads of fertiliser for distribution to farmers under a subsidy programme aimed at boosting agricultural production and strengthening food security across the state.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang announced the intervention on Friday in Jos during the official flag-off of fertiliser sales for the 2026 farming season.
As part of the initiative, the governor approved the sale of fertiliser to farmers at a subsidised price of ₦20,000 per bag, describing the programme as a strategic investment in improving farm productivity and supporting farmers amid rising production costs.
Mutfwang said the intervention forms part of his administration’s commitment to revitalising agriculture, increasing crop yields and enhancing food security across Plateau State.
He noted that making fertiliser available at an affordable price would encourage more farmers to cultivate larger areas of farmland, reduce production costs and contribute to higher agricultural output during the current farming season.
The governor urged farmers to make proper use of the subsidised inputs to maximise productivity and support the state’s efforts to achieve sustainable agricultural growth.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing policies and programmes that improve farmers livelihoods, promote rural economic development and strengthen Plateau State’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading agricultural producers.
