The National Community Food Bank Programme has extended its reach to Nigeria’s South-South region, with Calabar, Cross River State, hosting the latest stop of the nationwide initiative.
The South-South Zonal Launch was led by Her Excellency, Oluremi Tinubu, CON, alongside key stakeholders committed to strengthening food security and improving access to food for vulnerable Nigerians.
The programme is designed to support communities facing food insecurity by establishing a structured food bank system that can provide essential food supplies to vulnerable households while contributing to the Federal Government’s broader efforts to improve food security across the country.
As Custodian and Trust Manager of the Food Bank Trust Fund, the Bank of Agriculture is supporting the implementation and nationwide expansion of the programme. The bank is working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the initiative reaches communities and beneficiaries across the country.
The Calabar launch further demonstrates the programme’s commitment to achieving nationwide coverage, bringing its food security intervention closer to vulnerable populations in the South-South zone.
Stakeholders at the event reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among government institutions, development partners and other relevant actors in building a sustainable food support system that can respond effectively to the needs of vulnerable Nigerians.
With the Food Bank Train now reaching the South-South region, the National Community Food Bank Programme continues its journey towards strengthening food security, supporting vulnerable households and promoting greater resilience in communities across Nigeria.
