The Kwara State Chapter of the Nigerian Association of Animal Health and Husbandry Technologists (NAAHHT) has paid a courtesy visit to the Kwara State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) Coordination Office in Ilorin with a commitment to strengthen collaboration towards improving livestock service delivery and productivity across the state.
The visit which took place on Friday 28th August 2026 was aimed at identifying areas of partnership between the two organisations and exploring opportunities to support livestock farmers, strengthen animal health services and enhance the capacity of frontline livestock professionals in Kwara State.
Speaking during the visit the Kwara L-PRES State Project Coordinator Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye commended the leadership and members of NAAHHT for their contributions to animal health, disease prevention and control as well as extension service delivery at the grassroots.
Oyawoye noted that Animal Health and Husbandry Technologists play an important role in the livestock value chain, particularly in reaching farmers at the community level where timely animal health services can significantly improve livestock productivity and reduce losses.
He assured the association of the project’s readiness to work with professional bodies and relevant stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of L-PRES interventions across Kwara State.
According to Oyawoye stronger partnerships with professional associations would help create a more coordinated approach to livestock development while ensuring that farmers benefit from improved technical support, animal health services and extension interventions.
In his remarks the Kwara State Chairman of NAAHHT Mr. Bashiru B. Atoyebi, said the courtesy visit was undertaken to identify with the L-PRES project and discuss areas of collaboration that would have a direct impact on livestock farmers and Animal Health Technologists in the state.
Atoyebi described NAAHHT members as important frontline actors in the livestock sector stressing that their proximity to farmers gives them a strategic role in disease surveillance, animal health management, farmer education and the delivery of technical services.
He expressed the association’s willingness to support Kwara L-PRES in achieving its Project Development Objective (PDO) particularly in areas that would improve livestock productivity, strengthen resilience and promote sustainable development of the livestock value chain.
The NAAHHT chairman also emphasised the need for continuous engagement between professional bodies and government-supported livestock development programmes to ensure that interventions are properly implemented and translated into tangible benefits for farmers.
Also present during the meeting were the NAAHHT Vice Chairman, Pastor Kunle Oyedepo and the State Secretary Mr. Olasupo Akande.
The meeting underscored the importance of strategic partnerships among livestock development stakeholders in addressing challenges within the sector and improving the quality and accessibility of animal health and extension services.
The renewed commitment between Kwara L-PRES and NAAHHT is expected to contribute to stronger veterinary and animal health extension services, improved livestock productivity and increased commercialisation of the livestock sector in Kwara State.
