KWARA GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES SEPTEMBER ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION ACROSS 26 LGA’s

The Kwara State Government has announced Saturday, September 26th 2026, as the date for the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

The exercise, scheduled to take place from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., is aimed at promoting a clean, safe and healthy environment across the state.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, and made available to journalists by the Ministry’s Press Secretary Mrs. Shakirat Muritala.

According to the statement, vehicular and human movement will be permitted during the sanitation exercise to enable interested community members, organisations and other stakeholders to participate actively in the clean-up exercise.

The government urged residents and participating organisations to use the opportunity to remove refuse, debris and other materials that could obstruct the free flow of water through drainages and waterways, particularly during heavy rainfall.

Residents were also encouraged to give proper attention to their residential and business premises as part of collective efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment throughout the state.

Hajia Buge further disclosed that the Ministry of Environment would provide waste disposal vehicles to various groups and organisations that have expressed interest in collaborating with the government in their respective communities.

She said the initiative was intended to support community-led sanitation efforts and help prevent avoidable disasters that could result from flooding and environmental-related diseases.

The Commissioner therefore called on residents, community organisations and other stakeholders across the 16 LGAs to actively participate in the exercise and contribute to keeping Kwara State clean and environmentally safe.
