The Gombe State Government has commenced the distribution of 2,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser to farmers as part of its efforts to increase agricultural productivity and strengthen food security across the state.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya officially flagged off the 2026 fertiliser distribution programme on Tuesday, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting farmers and enhancing agricultural production.
According to the governor, the fertiliser will be sold to farmers at a subsidised rate, with the state government covering 50 per cent of the cost to reduce production expenses and encourage increased cultivation during the 2026 farming season.
He explained that the intervention is aimed at improving farmers’ access to quality agricultural inputs, increasing crop yields and boosting overall food production across the state.
Governor Yahaya noted that agriculture remains a key driver of Gombe State’s economy, stressing that sustained investment in the sector is essential for improving livelihoods, creating employment and ensuring food sufficiency.
He urged farmers to make effective use of the subsidised fertiliser and adopt improved farming practices to maximise productivity and achieve better harvests.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing policies and programmes that support agricultural development, strengthen rural economies and improve the welfare of farming communities.
Stakeholders at the flag-off ceremony commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would help cushion the impact of rising input costs and encourage greater participation in farming activities.
The fertiliser distribution programme forms part of the Gombe State Government’s broader agricultural development agenda aimed at enhancing food security, increasing agricultural output and promoting sustainable economic growth.
