The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Nigeria’s livestock sector through stronger stakeholder collaboration, strategic investments and policies aimed at increasing productivity, enhancing food security and creating sustainable livelihoods.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Ijeoma Chinyere Akujobi, gave the assurance on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, during a high-level stakeholders’ engagement meeting with the Commercial Dairy Ranchers Association of Nigeria (CODARAN) at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting brought together government officials, development partners and industry stakeholders to deliberate on initiatives for the growth of commercial dairy production and the modernisation of Nigeria’s livestock sector.
In her opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary welcomed the CODARAN delegation and commended the association for its partnership with the Ministry in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda for livestock development.
She emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investment, innovation and inclusive growth across the various livestock value chains.
Earlier, the leader of the visiting delegation, Alhaji M. D. Abubakar, outlined the purpose of the visit, highlighting opportunities for collaboration in animal production, veterinary services, capacity building, investment promotion and sustainable livestock development.
He expressed the association’s readiness to work closely with the Ministry to achieve mutually beneficial objectives and contribute to the development of the livestock sector.
During the interactive session, participants exchanged ideas on strengthening institutional partnerships, addressing challenges affecting commercial dairy production and identifying practical solutions to improve productivity, animal health and market access.
They also explored opportunities for technical cooperation, knowledge sharing and increased private-sector participation in the livestock industry.
Responding to the presentations and contributions, Mrs Akujobi appreciated the stakeholders for their input and reiterated that meaningful partnerships are critical to achieving the Ministry’s mandate.
She stressed that the Federal Government is determined to build a modern, competitive and resilient livestock sector capable of contributing significantly to national economic growth, food security and job creation.
The Permanent Secretary assured stakeholders that the Ministry would continue to engage relevant partners to translate discussions into concrete actions and deliver sustainable outcomes that would benefit livestock farmers and the Nigerian economy.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by all parties to strengthen collaboration and sustain engagement towards the successful implementation of livestock development programmes across the country.
