FG ENDORSES UNIFIED LIVESTOCK PLATFORM TO DRIVE GROWTH.

The Federal Government has welcomed the formation of a unified platform by key stakeholders in Nigeria’s livestock value chain, describing the initiative as a significant step towards strengthening collaboration, improving coordination and accelerating the transformation of the livestock sector.

The platform brings together three major livestock association the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), the National Association of Cattle Dealers, Processors and Marketers of Nigeria (NACDPAAMN) and the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN)—in partnership with United States-based organisations, International Meat Processors LLC (IMP), Fulcrum Technologies and Fulcrum Sovereign Impact Capital LLC, which will provide technical, digital and investment support.

Speaking during a meeting with representatives of the platform in Abuja on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, commended the stakeholders for uniting under a common framework to support the Federal Government’s drive to reposition the livestock sector.

Maiha described the new partnership as a strategic move that would strengthen collaboration among producers, processors, marketers, service providers and other value chain actors, unlocking the enormous economic potential of Nigeria’s livestock industry.

“The livestock sector requires collective action. By working together, producers, processors, marketers and other value chain actors can unlock the immense potential of the sector, attract investment and create sustainable economic opportunities for Nigerians,” the Minister said.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing policy direction and creating an enabling environment that encourages private sector participation, attracts investment and promotes value chain development.

Earlier, the National President of MACBAN, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, who led the delegation, said the platform was established to provide a unified structure through which livestock stakeholders can collaborate more effectively with government, access improved services and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the sector.

According to him, the initiative is designed to modernise Nigeria’s livestock ecosystem through digital registration, traceability systems, improved access to finance, veterinary services, market linkages, infrastructure development and expanded opportunities for value addition and exports.

Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of International Meat Processors LLC, Abdullah Salem, described the initiative as a landmark partnership that reflects the shared commitment of livestock stakeholders to build a modern, competitive and investment-driven livestock industry.

“Today, Nigeria’s livestock industry has chosen to stand together. The organisations that represent this economy, under the leadership of the Ministry, have laid the foundation for a modern national livestock sector that serves its members, attracts investment, strengthens food security and competes globally,” he said.

Salem added that the partnership would improve access to finance, insurance, veterinary services, market information, capacity building and transparent business transactions, while supporting investments in critical infrastructure such as modern livestock markets, processing facilities, cold-chain systems, breeding centres and feed production infrastructure.

The Federal Government said the collaboration aligns with its broader agenda to transform the livestock sector into a major contributor to food security, employment generation, economic growth and export development in Nigeria.
