FG DISTRIBUTES SUBSIDISED FERTILISER TO OVER 20,000 FARMERS IN FOUR STATES.

More than 20,000 smallholder farmers across four states have begun receiving subsidised fertiliser under a Federal Government initiative implemented through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) to boost food production and strengthen agricultural output nationwide.

Under the Farm Input Support Programme, a total of 80,640 bags of NPK fertiliser will be distributed to 20,160 farmers in Niger, Benue, Nasarawa and Kwara states.

Speaking at the launch of the programme in Niger State, the Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Development Fund, Mohammed Abu Ibrahim, said the intervention was designed to improve farmers access to quality agricultural inputs at affordable prices and increase productivity across key crop value chains.

According to him, the initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to support smallholder farmers enhance food security and reduce the burden of rising production costs.

Ibrahim noted that access to fertiliser remains critical to increasing crop yields and ensuring sustainable agricultural growth, adding that the programme would help farmers achieve better harvests during the current farming season.

He explained that the Farm Input Support Programme is targeted at genuine farmers and is expected to contribute significantly to improving agricultural output and strengthening the country’s food system.

The Executive Secretary further reaffirmed the commitment of the National Agricultural Development Fund to implementing interventions that promote agricultural development, increase farmers incomes and support national food sufficiency goals.

Beneficiary farmers are expected to utilise the subsidised inputs to enhance productivity and contribute to increased food availability across the country.

The intervention underscores the Federal Government’s continued efforts to provide timely support to farmers and stimulate growth within Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
