COA-FARMERS DECLARES SUPPORT FOR TINUBU’S 2027 RE-ELECTION BID.

The Coalition of Farmers Associations for Food Security in Nigeria, COA-FARMERS, has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

The declaration was made on Monday, September 28th, 2026, during the inauguration of the farmers’ coalition in Abuja by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, on behalf of the President.

COA-FARMERS brings together 99 farmer associations and commodity organisations, representing producers, aggregators, processors and marketers across various agricultural value chains.

Speaking at the event, Kyari said the coalition should serve as a structured platform for farmers to communicate their experiences and concerns to government and contribute to the development of agricultural policies.

He urged the leadership of COA-FARMERS to provide credible feedback on agricultural production, inputs, financing, markets and technology, while keeping the interests of farmers at the centre of its activities.

The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, acknowledged the coalition’s support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid and urged members to communicate the administration’s achievements to people at the grassroots.

The Federal Ministry also disclosed that President Tinubu had appointed Senator Kyari as Director of the Presidential Campaign Council for Agro-Allied Commodities Mobilization with the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security serving as Deputy Director.

The National President of COA-FARMERS, Chief Emmanuel Anoh, said the coalition cuts across major agricultural sectors, including grains, roots and tubers, livestock, fisheries, horticulture, cash crops and agro-allied services.

Anoh called for government agricultural interventions and inputs to reach farmers directly, advocating a direct-to-farm approach to improve the effectiveness of government programmes.

He also called for quarterly stakeholder meetings between COA-FARMERS and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to provide regular opportunities for farmers to discuss challenges and assess government interventions.

Meanwhile, the Minister disclosed that Nigeria’s agricultural sector recorded 4.39 per cent growth in real GDP in the second quarter of 2026, describing it as the sector’s strongest performance since 2021.

Kyari attributed the development largely to the efforts of Nigerian farmers and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to improving agricultural productivity, food security and farmers’ livelihoods.

The inauguration formally established COA-FARMERS as a platform for agricultural stakeholders to engage with government and contribute to discussions on policies and interventions affecting Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
