The Federal Government, through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), has commenced the North-West Zonal Farm Input Support Programme (FISP) Phase I with the distribution of 100,800 bags of fertiliser to 25,200 smallholder farmers across Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi and Jigawa States.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Katsina State on Saturday, June 20, 2026, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, described the initiative as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening food security, boosting agricultural productivity and stimulating rural economic growth in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Minister disclosed that each of the five beneficiary states received 20,160 bags of fertiliser for distribution to 5,040 registered farmers in collaboration with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN).
According to him, the intervention is designed to bridge productivity gaps among smallholder farmers while supporting local fertiliser manufacturers to expand production capacity, create employment opportunities and strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
Senator Kyari noted that the programme complements the Federal Government’s broader agricultural transformation efforts, including the AgGrow Initiative, which links agro-processors with registered smallholder farmers to improve market access and enhance value chain efficiency.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to achieving national food security, the Minister stated that ongoing interventions under the Renewed Hope Agenda are contributing to food price stabilisation, easing inflationary pressures and restoring confidence in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
“Food security is not achieved in a day. It is built season by season, farmer by farmer and input by input. Today, the North-West has taken a significant step forward in that journey,” Senator Kyari said.
The Farm Input Support Programme is expected to improve crop yields, enhance farmers’ incomes and contribute significantly to the nation’s drive toward sustainable agricultural development and food sufficiency.
