The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration at the PMAWCA mid-year meeting to modernising Nigeria’s port infrastructure, deepening port channels, advancing digital transformation through the National Single Window and strengthening maritime security.
The Minister disclosed that approvals had been granted for the development of additional deep seaports across the country to complement existing infrastructure, enhance supply chain resilience and improve operational efficiency.
According to him, the ongoing reforms are already contributing to faster cargo evacuation, reduced vessel waiting time and a more predictable business environment for investors and port users.
Dr. Oyetola also highlighted the achievements recorded under the Deep Blue Project, noting that the initiative has significantly reduced maritime crime in the Gulf of Guinea and restored investor confidence in Nigeria’s maritime corridor.
He added that ongoing upgrades of existing ports and efforts to attract larger vessels are aimed at building a globally competitive maritime sector capable of boosting trade, creating jobs and accelerating sustainable economic growth.
The PMAWCA meeting also provided a platform for stakeholders across West and Central Africa to advance discussions on resilient port operations, innovation, sustainability and stronger regional collaboration within the maritime sector.
The Minister affirmed, remains committed to driving reforms and strengthening strategic partnerships that will shape the future of maritime trade and unlock the full potential of the blue economy across Africa.
