The Federal Government has intensified efforts to establish an agro-industrial business hub in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of broader strategies aimed at strengthening agricultural development, promoting industrialisation and enhancing food security.
Officials stated that the proposed hub is designed to serve as a major centre for agricultural processing, storage, marketing, innovation and agribusiness investment within the country.
The initiative is expected to support value addition across agricultural value chains while creating opportunities for farmers, processors, agripreneurs and private sector investors operating within the agricultural sector.
According to the government the agro-industrial business hub will help improve market access, reduce post-harvest losses, encourage agro-processing activities and stimulate economic growth through increased agricultural productivity and industrial expansion.
Stakeholders noted that the development aligns with ongoing national efforts to diversify the economy through agriculture and strengthen local food production systems capable of supporting sustainable development.
The government further explained that the project is expected to attract investments into agricultural infrastructure, logistics, technology adoption and commodity processing, thereby improving competitiveness within Nigeria’s agribusiness landscape.
Experts within the sector have described the initiative as a strategic step towards building integrated agricultural ecosystems that can support job creation, rural development and improved income generation for agricultural stakeholders.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with development partners, financial institutions and private investors to ensure the successful implementation of the agro-industrial hub and accelerate agricultural transformation within the FCT and beyond.
