NSCDC RAMPS UP ACTION AGAINST FARM INSECURITY TO SAFEGUARD AGRIC INVESTMENTS.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has intensified efforts to combat insecurity in farming communities as part of measures to protect agricultural investments, ensure food production and support rural livelihoods.

Officials disclosed that the corps is strengthening surveillance and security operations across key agricultural zones to address rising cases of kidnapping, farm invasions, cattle rustling, vandalism and attacks on farmers.

According to the NSCDC insecurity remains one of the major threats to Nigeria’s agricultural sector discouraging farmers from accessing farmlands and affecting productivity across several states.

The corps stated that it is deploying additional personnel to vulnerable communities while enhancing collaboration with local vigilante groups, traditional institutions and other security agencies to improve intelligence gathering and rapid response capabilities.

As part of the initiative the NSCDC is also focusing on the protection of critical agricultural assets such as farm settlements, irrigation facilities, storage centres and agro-processing infrastructure which are increasingly targeted by criminal elements.

Officials emphasized that safeguarding agricultural investments is essential for maintaining food security, economic stability and investor confidence within the sector.

Stakeholders welcomed the move, noting that persistent insecurity has contributed to reduced cultivation displacement of farming communities and rising food prices due to disruptions in production and supply chains.

Experts highlighted that improved security can encourage greater investment in agriculture particularly in large-scale farming and agribusiness ventures that require a stable operating environment.

The NSCDC also announced plans to intensify community sensitisation and conflict prevention initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and promoting peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders in affected areas.

However stakeholders stressed the need for sustained intervention, improved logistics and better welfare for security personnel to ensure the long-term effectiveness of security operations in rural communities.

The corps reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national efforts to strengthen agriculture by creating a safe and secure environment for farmers, agribusiness operators and rural residents.

With the intensified action against farm insecurity, the NSCDC aims to restore confidence in the agricultural sector and promote sustainable growth, productivity and rural development across Nigeria.
