The Kwara State chapter of the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation has distributed cash grants, work equipment, educational and healthcare support to beneficiaries as part of its 2026 Zakat distribution programme.
The distribution ceremony, held on Saturday, 27th June 2026, brought together beneficiaries, donors and stakeholders committed to improving the welfare of vulnerable members of foundation.
Speaking at the event, the State Coordinator of the foundation, Engr. Ariyo Bashiru Olalekan, welcomed guests and explained that the organisation was established to support and empower people in different areas of needs. He said the funds distributed were contributions made by Muslims during the Ramadan period.
According to him, the foundation raised about ₦20 million for this year 2026 Zakat exercise, which will be distributed across eight intervention areas, including economic empowerment, education support, healthcare assistance and other social welfare programmes.
Engr. Olalekan highlighted some of the foundation’s achievements over the years, noting that it has sponsored several beneficiaries through school, secured the release of inmates by paying bail for those unable to afford it, and executed community development projects such as the construction of solar-powered boreholes.
Also speaking, the Female Coordinator of the foundation, Hajiya Bashirat Abdulraheem Oluwakemi, celebrated widows in commemoration of the International Widows’ Day observed annually on 23rd of june. She said the foundation is committed not only to identifying with widows but also to empowering them to become self-reliant and capable of raising their children with dignity.
She encouraged members of the public to support widows in their communities, describing the gesture as a meaningful way of giving hope to those in need.
