The Federal Government has stepped up efforts to drive technology-based agricultural transformation in Nigeria, as the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, reviewed an innovative digital agriculture platform developed by Daki Farm.
The presentation, held at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) in Abuja, showcased the Daki Farm Super App, an integrated digital platform designed to support farmers and other stakeholders across the agricultural value chain.
The platform combines Artificial Intelligence (AI), satellite technology, smart irrigation systems and a digital marketplace to address challenges affecting agricultural production, farm management and access to markets.
A major highlight of the presentation was its AI-powered crop disease detection feature, which enables farmers to upload pictures of affected crops through their mobile phones and receive diagnoses alongside professional recommendations for managing crop diseases.
The technology is expected to help farmers identify crop health problems early, reduce losses caused by pests and diseases and improve agricultural productivity.
Beyond disease detection, the platform uses satellite imagery and Internet of Things (IoT) technology to support precision agriculture. Its features include smart irrigation scheduling, optimised fertiliser application and real-time field monitoring to help farmers make informed decisions about their operations.
To improve accessibility, Daki Farm also demonstrated its multilingual and audio-enabled features, including support for Hausa. The functionalities are designed to make digital agricultural services more accessible to smallholder farmers, particularly those with limited literacy who may face difficulties using conventional digital platforms.
The platform also uses agricultural data and predictive analytics to generate insights for farmers, investors, policymakers and other stakeholders. These insights are intended to support farm planning, investment decisions and broader agricultural development strategies.
During the interactive session, Kyari and officials of the ministry examined Nigeria’s existing digital agricultural ecosystem alongside the Daki Farm team to identify areas where the platform could complement ongoing government initiatives.
Discussions focused on strengthening national agricultural data management systems, improving produce traceability and supporting more informed investment decisions across the sector.
According to the HMA Media Office, the engagement forms part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to identify and evaluate innovative technologies capable of accelerating agricultural transformation and strengthening national food security.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with private-sector innovators to develop and deploy scalable digital solutions that empower farmers, improve productivity and support a more resilient and profitable agricultural sector.
