The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to creating new pathways for Nigerian youths to participate meaningfully in agriculture and contribute to building a more resilient agrifood system.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, stated this during the signing of the Record of Discussions with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for the Green Jobs for Youth in Resilient Agrifood Systems Project.
Senator Kyari said the initiative would equip young Nigerians with the skills, technology and opportunities needed to thrive across the agrifood sector while contributing to job creation and economic development.
The four-year project will focus on the rice, vegetable, cocoa and aquaculture value chains in Nasarawa, Cross River and Bayelsa States with successful models expected to be scaled up nationally.
The Minister commended the Republic of Korea, KOICA and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for the partnership, noting that the initiative would help create jobs, boost agricultural productivity and strengthen Nigeria’s agrifood systems.
He said the programme aligns with the Federal Government’s broader economic development agenda and would contribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of building a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
The initiative is expected to provide Nigerian youths with greater access to skills, technology and opportunities across the agricultural value chain, while promoting more resilient and sustainable agrifood systems.
Senator Kyari reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working with its development partners to expand opportunities for young Nigerians and accelerate transformation across the agricultural sector.
