COCEFAAA, CRIN PARTNER TO REVIVE COFFEE CULTIVATION IN NIGERIA.

The Cocoa and Coffee Farmers Alliance Association of Africa (COCEFAAA) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) to drive the revival of coffee cultivation and strengthen Nigeria’s cocoa and coffee industries.

The collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under the Nigeria Coffee Revival Initiative is aimed at enhancing production capacity by equipping farmers with modern agricultural knowledge, climate-resilient farming practices, improved seedlings and better post-harvest management techniques.

Speaking on the agreement the Global President of Cocoa and Coffee Farmers Alliance Association of Africa Adeola Adegoke stated that the initiative would help reposition Nigeria within the global coffee market while creating new economic opportunities for farmers and rural communities.

According to Adegoke the programme is not only focused on increasing coffee production but also on building a sustainable and competitive coffee industry driven by innovation scientific research and inclusive farmer development.

Under the partnership COCEFAAA and Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria will establish processing centres, pilot irrigation schemes, demonstration farms and digital traceability systems designed to enhance transparency, quality assurance and sustainability throughout the value chain.

The initiative is also expected to improve market access for farmers promote value addition and strengthen the competitiveness of Nigerian coffee and cocoa products in both local and international markets.

Adegoke noted that the programme aligns with the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and its Renewed Hope Agenda particularly in areas relating to food security, agricultural development, job creation and economic diversification.

He further disclosed that both organisations would collaborate closely with coffee-producing states, academic institutions, development partners, private sector stakeholders and farmer groups to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative nationwide.

Stakeholders have described the partnership as a major step towards revitalising Nigeria’s coffee industry increasing farmer’s incomes, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing the country’s position within the global coffee and cocoa markets.
