The Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) has commenced preparations for the election of its new Executive Council members who will steer the affairs of the Society from November 2026 to October 2028.
In a press statement released and signed by the Society Admin Officer 1, Mrs Inemotimi Kosuowei on behalf of National President Dr Mrs Ebinimi Joseph Ansa to distinguished FISON members, the statement stated that election would be conducted in accordance with the FISON Constitution, following the expiration of the tenure of the current Executive Council at the 2026 Annual Conference.
The 2026 FISON Annual Conference, tagged OGUN 2026, is scheduled to hold from October 26th to 31st, 2026, at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, where the election is expected to form part of the Society’s transition to a new leadership.
According to the statement, interested and financially active members who are committed to building a stronger FISON are invited to obtain and complete the prescribed electoral forms.
The positions open for contest include:
1. National President
2. Vice President (FIN & Linkages)
3. Vice President (Industries)
4. Vice President (Aquaculture)
5. Vice President (Research and Training)
6. National Secretary
7. Assistant National Secretary
8. Public Relations Officer (PRO)
9. National Treasurer
10. Financial Secretary
The Society stated that prospective candidates are required to submit a letter of interest to the FISON Headquarters Secretariat to request the prescribed electoral form.
Candidates are also required to pay a non-refundable electoral fee of ₦20,000, payable to the designated FISON account and return the completed electoral form to the National Headquarters Secretariat.
The deadline for submission of completed electoral forms is September 30th, 2026, with the notice emphasizing that no submissions would be accepted after the deadline.
The election is expected to provide an opportunity for FISON members to elect leaders who will continue to advance the interests of fisheries and aquaculture professionals, strengthen industry linkages, promote research and training and contribute to the sustainable development of Nigeria’s fisheries sector.
