The Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) has commenced discussions with the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI), Ilorin, on establishing a strategic partnership aimed at reducing post-harvest losses and strengthening agricultural value chains in Kwara State.
The initiative followed a courtesy visit by the management of KWACCIMA, led by its President and Chairman of the Council, Engr. Abu Salami, FNSE, to the management of NSPRI on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
The engagement focused on exploring areas of collaboration between both institutions, particularly in technology transfer and capacity building, post-harvest loss reduction, value addition, export readiness, research, data and policy development.
The discussions provided an opportunity for the two organisations to identify practical approaches to reducing losses along agricultural value chains, promoting agro-processing and creating greater wealth and employment opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises across the state.
KWACCIMA expressed its readiness to work closely with NSPRI to translate research findings and technological innovations into practical solutions for businesses and private-sector operators.
The Chamber also indicated its willingness to leverage its extensive network of businesses and industry stakeholders to promote the adoption of technologies developed through NSPRI’s research activities.
The proposed partnership is expected to strengthen the role of KWACCIMA as a private-sector implementation partner in North Central Nigeria while supporting efforts to position Kwara State as a model for post-harvest management, agricultural value addition and sustainable agro-industrial development.
Both institutions expressed optimism that the collaboration would help bridge the gap between agricultural research and private-sector application while improving productivity and competitiveness across the state’s agricultural sector.
The visit was described as cordial and productive, with KWACCIMA and NSPRI expressing their commitment to strengthening their relationship and pursuing mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.
The engagement is expected to pave the way for further discussions and initiatives aimed at improving post-harvest management, expanding agro-processing opportunities and accelerating sustainable agricultural development in Kwara State.
