The Kwara State Government has announced that the June edition of its monthly environmental sanitation exercise will hold on Saturday, June 27th 2026, across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.
The exercise is scheduled to take place between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m during which there will be restrictions on both vehicular and human movement to ensure full compliance and effective participation by residents.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, through the Ministry’s Press Secretary, Shakirat Muritala.
According to the statement, residents are expected to actively participate in the sanitation exercise by cleaning their homes, business premises, surroundings, drainages and removing overgrown grasses and bushes to eliminate environmental hazards and maintain a healthy environment.
The Commissioner disclosed that waste management trucks would be deployed across the state to collect refuse and transport it to government-approved dump sites for proper disposal.
She further warned that security agencies and environmental officers have been mobilised to monitor compliance throughout the exercise. Offenders who violate the sanitation order or movement restriction, she said, will be arrested and prosecuted at the nearest mobile court.
Hajia Buge also cautioned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse on pedestrian walkways, roadsides, drainages, canals and other unauthorised locations, stressing that such acts constitute offences punishable under the Kwara State environmental laws.
The state government therefore appealed to all residents to take advantage of the monthly sanitation exercise to promote environmental cleanliness, prevent disease outbreaks, and sustain a cleaner, healthier and safer Kwara State.
