KANO GOVERNMENT HIGHLIGHTS AGRICULTURAL ACHIEVEMENTS AND STRENGTHENS FOOD SECURITY EFFORTS.

The Kano State Government has highlighted major achievements recorded in the agriculture sector and food security over the past three years, attributing the progress to sustained investments in irrigation, mechanisation, farmer support programmes and livestock development.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Danjuma Mahmud, disclosed this on Tuesday during an interactive session with journalists in Kano, where he reviewed the ministry’s accomplishments and outlined preparations for the 2026 wet season farming campaign.

According to the commissioner, the state government has implemented several initiatives aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, improving farmers’ livelihoods and ensuring sustainable food production across the state.

Mahmud revealed that the ministry established a comprehensive database of farmers in line with the development blueprint of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, noting that the initiative would enhance planning facilitate targeted interventions and ensure that government support reaches genuine farmers.

He explained that the database has become a critical tool for coordinating agricultural programmes distributing inputs and monitoring the impact of government interventions.

The commissioner also highlighted investments in irrigation infrastructure, mechanised farming services and livestock development describing them as key pillars of the state’s strategy to strengthen food security and boost agricultural output.

He noted that the government has continued to provide support to farmers through access to improved inputs extension services and other programmes designed to increase yields and enhance resilience against climate-related challenges.

Speaking on preparations for the 2026 wet season, Mahmud assured farmers that the ministry had put necessary measures in place to ensure a successful farming season and sustain the gains already recorded in the sector.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State Government to advancing agricultural development and supporting initiatives that will contribute to economic growth, job creation and improved food security for residents of the state.
