LIVESTOCK MINISTRY SEEKS STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH GREENFIELD TO BOOST VALUE ADDITION AND JOB CREATION.

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has expressed its commitment to partnering with Greenfield Feedlots and Packaging Company to enhance livestock production, create employment opportunities, strengthen food security and promote a zero-waste livestock economy in Nigeria.

The Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, made this known while receiving a delegation from Greenfield Feedlots and Packaging Company, led by Ahmed Al-Mustapha, OFR, during a courtesy visit to the Ministry in Abuja on 3rd of june 2026.

The Minister commended the company for assembling experienced professionals, technical experts and visionary investors to drive investment in the livestock sector. He stressed that the industry holds enormous economic potential, noting that virtually every part of an animal can be converted into valuable products.

According to him, the livestock sector operates on a zero-waste principle, as animal by-products such as faeces, horns, bones, blood, hides and skins can be processed into commercially viable products.

“In the livestock industry, nothing goes to waste. Every component of an animal has economic value and can contribute to wealth creation, industrial development and environmental sustainability,” the Minister stated.

Drawing lessons from global success stories, Maiha highlighted the growth of JBS in Brazil, which evolved from a small meat-processing business into one of the largest meat companies in the world.

He noted that the company’s annual revenue of about 74 billion dollars demonstrates the vast opportunities available across the livestock value chain and underscored the importance of strategic investments in the sector.

The Minister further stated that the Ministry is willing to explore areas of collaboration with Greenfield Feedlots and Packaging Company, adding that a detailed project presentation would help identify areas where government support and strategic partnerships could be provided for mutual benefit.

Earlier, the Secretary of the delegation, Ibrahim Danbauchi, said the visit was aimed at introducing the company to the Ministry and exploring opportunities for collaboration in establishing a modern livestock processing and packaging enterprise.

Danbauchi said the company is seeking strategic partnership, policy support, expedited approvals and assistance in connecting with international technical and financial partners to facilitate the successful implementation of the project.

He explained that the proposed initiative would generate employment opportunities, increase government revenue through taxation, promote environmental sustainability through a zero-waste production model, strengthen Nigeria’s livestock value chain and position the country to benefit from the rapidly growing global halal meat market.

The meeting was attended by directors, deputy directors, the Senior Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister and other senior officials of the Ministry.
