OLAM AGRI-IFP ORGANISES FARMERS FORUM IN ILORIN CLUSTERS ON BEST AQUACULTURE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES

Fish farmers in Ilorin have been encouraged to adopt proper feeding and pond management practices to improve fish health, productivity and profitability during the Olam Agri-IFP Farmers Forum at Egbejila, ilorin edition.

Speaking at the forum, Olam Agri Business Development Executives Mr John Adoti intoduced top company management as follows Mr. Waheed Jinadu (South West Regional Manager), Mr Joseph Egbede and Mr Muritala (Business Development Executive). The trio engaged farmers on the company’s upgraded fish feed products, assuring farmers that the feeds have been enhanced to deliver better nutrition and improved performance for aquaculture production.

Mr. John Adoti, Business Development Executive explains that the upgraded feed contains quality protein and essential nutrients needed for healthy fish growth while maintaining the same quantity farmers are familiar with.

He noted that the improvement was aimed at helping fish farmers achieve better feed conversion, faster growth rate and increased yield.

He further encouraged farmers to continue trusting the Olam Agri brand, (Aqualis, Blue crown, Alpha plus and Ecofloat) stating that the company remains committed to supporting aquaculture development through quality feed solutions and farmer education initiatives.

Adoti educate farmers on the importance of proper pond sanitation and water management for sustainable fish farming and advised fish farmers to clean their ponds regularly to maintain healthy water conditions for their fishes, stressing that poor pond hygiene could negatively affect fish growth and survival.

Mr. Adoti spoke extensively on water management practices, including the importance of pH, Temperature, Dissolve Oxygen and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) monitoring in fish.

Speaking on feeding practices Mr. Adoti stated that feed accounts for about 60-65% of aquaculture production cost lurging farmers to pay close attention to the quality and quantity of feed given to their fishes. He encouraged participants to adopt Best Aquaculture Management Practices capable of improving productivity, reducing mortality and ensuring sustainable aquaculture operations.

The forum provided fish farmers with an opportunity to interact with industry experts, gain practical knowledge and learn modern techniques aimed at boosting fish production and profitability within the aquaculture sector.
