The World Aquaculture Society (WAS) has opened nominations for several positions on its Board, ahead of the society’s 2027 Annual Meeting scheduled to hold in Hawaii.
The call for nominations invites current WAS members to nominate themselves or other eligible members for the available leadership positions.
According to the society, the positions open for nomination include President-Elect, Secretary, two Director positions and a Student Director.
The President-Elect position comes with an approximately three-year commitment, covering the roles of President-Elect, President and Immediate Past-President.
The society is also seeking nominations for the position of Secretary, while two positions are available for Directors, each carrying a three-year term.
A Student Director position is also available for a one-year term. Candidates for the position are required to have been members of the World Aquaculture Society for at least one year.
WAS stated that any current member in good standing can be nominated for the available positions. Members may nominate themselves or a colleague, provided the nominee gives consent and meets the membership requirements.
For each nomination, the society requires the nominee’s consent, a recent photograph, curriculum vitae and biography, as well as responses to three short questions outlined in the nomination instructions.
The nomination process is also being promoted among members of the WAS African Chapter, which is seeking nominations for the position of Chapter Secretary. The African Chapter said accepted nominations would be compiled into a ballot for online voting by its full membership in October 2026.
The deadline for submitting nominations is September 30th, 2026. Members interested in participating in the process are expected to submit their nomination details and follow the instructions provided by the society.
Nominations for the wider WAS Board should be sent to Killian Haydel and Wendy Sealey with Foluke Areola copied on the submission. The initiative is aimed at giving members an opportunity to participate in shaping the future leadership and activities of the World Aquaculture Society.
