The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has commissioned a modern vegetable market in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State as part of efforts to strengthen the agricultural value chain, improve farmers access to markets and reduce post-harvest losses.
The newly inaugurated facility is expected to serve as a strategic marketing hub for horticultural produce, enhancing the efficient sale and distribution of vegetables while creating additional income opportunities for farmers and traders across the state.
Speaking at the commissioning, NALDA officials noted that the project aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to improving agricultural infrastructure and supporting sustainable agribusiness development.
The authority explained that the vegetable market will provide farmers with a reliable platform to sell their produce, reduce wastage resulting from poor market access and improve returns on their investments.
According to NALDA, the facility is also expected to strengthen linkages between producers, traders and consumers, contributing to a more efficient and competitive agricultural marketing system.
Stakeholders noted that improved market infrastructure is essential for increasing the profitability of vegetable farming, encouraging higher production and enhancing food security.
The project is expected to be stimulate local economic activities, generate employment opportunities and support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises operating within the horticultural value chain.
Farmers in the area expressed optimism that the new market would ease the challenges associated with transporting and marketing fresh produce, enabling them to reach more buyers and reduce post-harvest losses.
NALDA reaffirmed its commitment to implementing initiatives that promote agricultural development, strengthen rural livelihoods and improve market access for farmers as part of the country’s broader food security and economic diversification agenda.
