Ogun State is set to host one of Nigeria’s largest dairy production facilities following a $250 million investment commitment by Pure Dairy Herds, a specialised cattle breeding and milk production company.
The project, which will be located in Ogun West Senatorial District, is expected to significantly boost local milk production, reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported dairy products and create new economic opportunities for residents of the state.
The company’s representative, Mr. Farouk Gumel, disclosed the development after a meeting with Governor Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta, noting that the investment forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s dairy industry and build a more sustainable livestock value chain.
According to Gumel, the facility will focus on modern cattle breeding and commercial milk production using advanced technologies and international best practices to improve productivity and efficiency.
The investment is also expected to generate employment opportunities, stimulate rural economic development and support local businesses operating within the dairy value chain.
Stakeholders believe the project will contribute to bridging Nigeria’s milk supply deficit by increasing domestic production and reducing the country’s reliance on imported dairy products.
Governor Abiodun reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for agribusiness investments through improved infrastructure, investor-friendly policies and strategic partnerships.
He noted that attracting large-scale agricultural investments remains central to the state’s economic development agenda and efforts to enhance food security.
The proposed dairy facility is expected to position Ogun State as a key hub for livestock and dairy production while supporting the Federal Government’s drive to transform Nigeria’s livestock sector into a major contributor to economic growth, employment and sustainable agricultural development.
