According to the Minister, the sector has witnessed remarkable growth in food production, farmer support, mechanization and value-chain development aimed at strengthening food security and improving the livelihoods of millions of Nigerians.

Kyari disclosed that food prices for major staples have reduced by up to 50 percent nationwide, easing the burden on consumers and enhancing access to affordable food.

He also revealed that more than two million bags of fertilizer were distributed to nearly one million farmers across the country to boost agricultural productivity and support increased crop yields.

As part of efforts to modernize farming operations, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security deployed 2,000 tractors and assorted agricultural equipment under the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanization Programme. The initiative is expected to enhance efficiency, reduce production costs and increase output.

The Minister further stated that over 647,500 farmers have been registered under various government programmes, while 622,818 beneficiaries received subsidized agricultural inputs to support their farming activities.

In a bid to safeguard farmers against risks, the ministry provided agricultural insurance coverage worth ₦700 billion to 199,275 farmers nationwide.

To improve access to affordable financing, the Federal Government approved a ₦250 billion facility for the Bank of Agriculture, which will provide credit support to farmers and agribusiness operators.

Kyari also noted that the government has facilitated the establishment of large-scale processing plants, flour milling factories and agribusiness incubation centres to promote value addition, reduce post-harvest losses and create employment opportunities.

He added that women and youths have benefited from expanded access to finance, extension services and climate-smart agriculture training programmes, enabling greater participation in agricultural activities.

The Minister emphasized that the achievements reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to transforming agriculture into a modern, resilient and profitable sector capable of ensuring food security, creating jobs and driving economic growth.

He assured stakeholders that the ministry would continue implementing policies and programmes that strengthen the agricultural sector, noting that greater achievements are expected in the years ahead.
