BARAU TO DISTRIBUTE 53,040 BAGS OF FERTILISER TO BOOST FARMING IN KANO NORTH.

Ahead of the 2026 wet farming season the Deputy President of the Senate Barau I. Jibrin, has concluded arrangements for the distribution of 53,040 bags of fertiliser to residents across the 13 Local Government Areas that make up Kano North Senatorial District.

The fertiliser distribution programme scheduled to commence officially on May 31, 2026, forms part of Senator Barau’s agricultural support initiative aimed at enhancing crop production, supporting farmers and promoting food sufficiency within the district.

Details of the intervention were contained in a statement issued by the senator’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Ismail Mudashir, who described the programme as part of the lawmaker’s ongoing efforts to support rural communities and strengthen agricultural activities across the region.

According to the statement, the fertiliser distribution will benefit not only farmers but also various groups and stakeholders including party officials local government functionaries, councillors, ward executives, traditional rulers, religious leaders, school administrators, security personnel and selected community influencers.

Speaking on the initiative Senator Barau emphasised the importance of providing farmers with agricultural inputs before the commencement of planting activities noting that timely access to fertiliser would contribute significantly to increased agricultural productivity and improved harvests.

He explained that the intervention is designed to support farmers in maximising crop yields during the wet season while contributing to broader efforts aimed at addressing food security challenges across the country.

The Deputy Senate President further stated that the programme aligns with the agricultural and food security objectives of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises increased food production, agricultural development and rural economic growth.

Barau urged beneficiaries to utilise the fertiliser effectively and ensure that the agricultural input is applied for its intended purpose to maximise productivity and improve farm output.

Stakeholders have welcomed the intervention noting that access to fertiliser remains a critical factor in enhancing crop performance, improving farmers incomes and strengthening food production particularly as preparations intensify for the 2026 farming season.

The initiative is expected to provide substantial support to farming households across Kano North, helping to boost agricultural activities improve food availability and contribute to economic development within the senatorial district.
