
President of the Dangote Group Aliko Dangote has reiterated his commitment to transforming Africa’s agricultural sector through strategic investments in fertiliser production declaring that the continent has the resources and potential to achieve food sufficiency and become a major exporter of agricultural commodities.
Dangote made the remarks while addressing journalists in Gode a town in Ethiopia’s Somali region during an official visit hosted by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Speaking on the importance of fertiliser to agricultural productivity Dangote said Africa’s recurring food insecurity challenges are closely tied to limited access to essential farming inputs, particularly fertiliser. According to him improving fertiliser availability across the continent would significantly boost crop yields strengthen food systems and reduce dependence on food imports.
He stressed that Africa possesses vast arable land favourable climatic conditions and a large youthful population capable of driving agricultural expansion if properly supported with modern farming inputs and infrastructure.
Dangote noted that many African countries still struggle with low agricultural productivity due to poor access to affordable fertiliser, mechanisation and irrigation systems. He explained that increasing local fertiliser production would not only lower costs for farmers but also improve food security and stimulate economic growth across the continent.
The business mogul said his company remains focused on expanding fertiliser production capacity to support farmers in Africa and other parts of the world. He added that the investment drive is aimed at ensuring farmers have access to high-quality fertiliser at competitive prices to improve yields and profitability.
Dangote further stated that agriculture remains one of the strongest tools for economic diversification poverty reduction and job creation in Africa especially for rural communities where farming is the primary source of livelihood.
He commended the Ethiopian government for its efforts in promoting agricultural development and creating an enabling environment for investment in critical sectors of the economy.
According to him stronger collaboration between governments and private sector investors will play a vital role in unlocking Africa’s agricultural potential and positioning the continent as a global food production hub.
Dangote maintained that with the right policies investments and support systems Africa can move from food dependency to self-sufficiency and eventually become a leading exporter of agricultural products to international markets.
