The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has showcased the country’s Blue Economy agenda at the Africa Forward Summit held in Nairobi, Kenya.

Speaking during a high-level panel session themed “Blue Economy — Maritime Sovereignty and Sustainable Valorization,” Oyetola highlighted key reforms introduced by the Federal Government since the creation of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy in August 2023.
The summit, co-hosted by William Ruto and Emmanuel Macron, brought together African leaders, policymakers, investors and development partners to promote partnerships, innovation and sustainable economic growth across Africa.
Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, joined other African leaders at the summit, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation, economic transformation and maritime development.
During the discussion, Oyetola revealed that agencies under the Ministry generated N1.83 trillion in 2025.
He added that the ongoing port modernization programme would boost trade, create employment opportunities and strengthen Nigeria’s position as the leading maritime hub in West and Central Africa.
The Minister also noted that the Federal Government is developing Nigeria’s first National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy to drive sustainable growth and unlock opportunities within the maritime sector.
