AGRIGENS NEWSLETTER VOLUME 3

The latest edition of the AGRIGENS Weekly Newsletter highlights major conversations, industry developments and inspiring moments shaping Nigeria’s agricultural and livestock sectors with focus on women empowerment, agribusiness investment, agricultural journalism and international collaboration.

Leading this week’s headlines, the Bank of Agriculture emphasized that empowering women in agriculture remains critical to Nigeria’s economic growth and sustainable development. The institution noted that women continue to play vital roles across farming, processing, food distribution and agribusiness, stressing the need for improved access to finance, technology, training and land ownership opportunities to enhance productivity and food security nationwide.

This edition also celebrates Mariam Oyinade Bakare with warm birthday wishes in recognition of her contributions to agricultural development, media advocacy, and agribusiness communication. Her dedication to promoting impactful agricultural stories and supporting sectoral growth continues to inspire stakeholders across the industry.

In a special feature titled “Sourcing Agri-News and Reporting: The Behind-the-Scenes Saga,” the newsletter sheds light on the challenges and efforts involved in agricultural journalism. The report highlights the extensive research, field engagement, interviews and fact-checking processes required to deliver credible agricultural news and information to farmers, policymakers, investors and agribusiness stakeholders.

The newsletter further examines how improving smallholder farmers’ livelihoods is increasingly attracting private sector investment into agriculture. Analysts noted that investors are showing growing interest in supporting smallholder farming through mechanization, financing, improved seedlings, storage infrastructure and digital agricultural solutions aimed at increasing productivity and profitability within rural communities.

On the international scene Nigeria and Türkiye are strengthening livestock collaboration to fast-track industry modernization. The partnership is expected to focus on livestock development, animal health, dairy production, meat processing, technology transfer and capacity building to improve productivity and encourage investment across the livestock value chain.

As always, AgriGens remains committed to promoting agricultural excellence, supporting food security and amplifying voices within the value chain.
