AGRIGENS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER VOLUME 9, ARTICLE 2

The latest edition of the AGRIGENS Weekly Newsletter highlighted major developments across Nigeria’s agricultural, livestock and agribusiness sectors, focusing on food security, rural development, post-harvest management, entrepreneurship and investment expansion.

Leading the headlines, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, commissioned the AFCOTT grains facility in Kano State as part of efforts to strengthen grain storage, improve food supply chains and support national food security initiatives. The facility is expected to enhance grain preservation, reduce post-harvest losses and provide better market opportunities for farmers and agribusiness operators.

In another significant development, the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) launched a 5,000-hectare farm estate project in Kwara State aimed at boosting food production, creating employment opportunities and accelerating rural development. The initiative is designed to empower farmers, improve access to agricultural land and encourage youth participation in commercial agriculture.

The newsletter also reported that the Federal Government has intensified actions toward national animal genetic reform to improve livestock productivity, breed quality and overall sector competitiveness. The renewed focus on animal genetics is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s livestock value chain while promoting sustainable meat and dairy production.

Similarly, the National Assembly pledged to increase budgetary allocations toward effective post-harvest solutions in order to address food waste, improve storage systems and enhance agricultural value chains across the country. Lawmakers emphasized the need for improved infrastructure, processing facilities and preservation technologies to support farmers and agribusinesses.

Also featured in the newsletter was the Business Accelerator Conference held in Ilorin, Kwara State, where entrepreneurs, business leaders and innovators gathered to discuss strategies for enterprise growth, investment opportunities and economic expansion. The conference, themed “Enlarge: Now or Never,” encouraged participants to embrace innovation, collaboration and business transformation.

Furthermore, the FUNAAB Alumni Global President engaged investors and stakeholders on the expansion drive for agricultural farm hubs aimed at promoting agribusiness development, research commercialization and sustainable food systems. The engagement highlighted the importance of partnerships and investment in advancing agricultural innovation and youth empowerment.

The AGRIGENS Weekly Newsletter Volume 9, Article 2, reflects ongoing efforts by government institutions, development agencies, private investors and entrepreneurs to transform Nigeria’s agricultural landscape through innovation, investment and strategic collaboration.
