NIGERIA AND GHANA DEEPEN SHEA INDUSTRY TIES AT GLOBAL SHEA ALLIANCE CONFERENCE 2026.

The Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari CON participated in the global shea alliance conference in Accra Ghana aimed at advancing value addition in the shea sector.

The session was opened by Ghana Vice president, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang while Ghana President His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama also enagaged the Nigerian delegation to deepen bilateral co-operation.

Discussion focused on trasitioning from raw shea exports to value added product boosting agro processing and enhancing global competitiveness.

The enagagement aligns with Nigeria’s policy direction as president Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR recently extended the ban on export of raw shea nut by one year from febuary 26, 2026 to promote local processing and increase economic value

The conference reinforced a shared regional commitment to industralisation, job creation and unlocking the full potential of the shea industry.

The partnership is expected to enhance cross-border trade, harmonize regulatory frameworks and promote sustainable practices in shea production. The two countries also pledged to support smallholder, who dominate the sector, through capacity building, technology transfer and improved access to modern processing equipment.

Nigeria and Ghana collectively account for a significant share of global shea production, making their collaboration critical to positioning West Africa as a dominant force in the global shea market.

The renewed alliance is seen as a strategic step toward unlocking the full economic potential of the shea industry while creating jobs and boosting rural livelihoods across both nations.
