The Kwara State Ministry of Livestock Development has intensified its drive to engage young people in livestock urging increased participation in the livestock value chain as a pathway to economic empowerment and food security.This call was made during a sensitisation programme held on Wednesday, April 22th 2026, at the Banquet Hall in Ilorin, Kwara State.Speaking at the event, Kwara State Commissioner of Livestock Development Mrs Hon Oloruntoyosi Thomas emphasized the vast opportunities within the livestock sector, ranging from production and processing to marketing and value addition. She noted that active youth involvement would not only reduce unemployment but also boost local production and strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural economy.The Commissioner highlighted ongoing initiatives designed to support young agripreneurs, including access to training, modern livestock management techniques and linkages to markets and financial support systems. Participants were encouraged to leverage these opportunities to build sustainable agribusiness ventures.The programme also featured Panel discussion and interactive sessions where stakeholders and resource persons provided insights into profitable livestock enterprises such as poultry, dairy production and small ruminant rearing.Attendees, largely made up of youths and women, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. Many expressed readiness to explore opportunities within the livestock value chain citing the need for continuous government support and mentorship.The sensitisation campaign forms part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to promote inclusive agricultural development and position the livestock sector as a key driver of economic growth in Nigeria.
